AN urban farm in Bristol which grows salad leaves and herbs is hoping to set up in Holt in February next year.
Severn Project CIC grows high quality, organic produce and delivers to restaurants, shops and distributors in the South West. The Severn Project method is extremely simple – creating employment by growing nutrient-dense produce for local consumption.
Following a 40% growth in sales this year, Severn Project is hoping to replicate the success of its Bristol farm in Holt.
Founder Steve Glover said, “It is extremely important in these post-brexit days of economic uncertainty that we become more resilient in terms of both food production and distribution – creating employment is important in the urban and rural setting.”
Severn will be looking to employ eight people from the local area in the first year, but would need up to 15 members eventually. The Severn Project started in 2010 with £2,500. In 2015/16 sales of produce exceeded £200,000. They distribute to over 100 outlets throughout the South West and currently employ 11 people.
In order to help with infrastructure costs the Severn Project has started a crowdfunding campaign, available here: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/the-severn-project-cic
