Melksham Bloomers have vowed to have the town ready for tomorrow’s (14th July) visit from the South West in Bloom competition judges, despite vandals damaging the Olympic-themed floral display on the Market Place roundabout.
At some point between the evening of Monday 12th July and the morning of Tuesday 13th July, vandals pushed over two of the athlete floral figures on the roundabout – the centre-piece of the town’s Olympic-themed display.
The vandals also damaged plants on the roundabout.
“Since yesterday (12th July), some despicable person/persons have destroyed a lot of the very hard work put in by Richard on the roundabout by pushing over two out of the three figures on the roundabout and trampling many of the plants in the process,” said Melksham Bloomer, Linda De Santiz.
“This is absolutely heart breaking for us all, especially Richard who puts his heart and soul into what he does. And of course tomorrow (14th July) is the all important judging day.”
“Horrified and disgusted that someone/people did this,” said mayor of Melksham, cllr Jon Hubbard. “This behaviour does not represent our town and those responsible should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
“It’s not big, it’s not clever, it’s just mindless hooliganism.”
However, the Bloomers have said that they will still have the town looking its best for judgement.
The team are aiming for their fourth gold win in a row at the South West in Bloom awards.
