MELKSHAM veteran, John Marable, is warming up for another cycling challenge next month.
John will be raising money for the British Heart Foundation by cycling across Dartmoor National Park on a recumbent tricycle – a tricycle that places the rider in a laid-back reclining position.
John will be cycling in memory of his son, Andrew ‘Mazza’ Marable, who died at the age of 38 in 2019 from a heart attack.
He will also be cycling in support of his grandson, Oscar Andrew Marable, who was born in May 2020 with a heart problem, who later had an operation to have a pacemaker fitted.
John and a team of commando veterans will cover 38 miles over two days in August, taking part in the ‘Commando Veterans 10th anniversary Yomp’ – starting in Okehampton and finishing in Plymouth.
“For a 67-year old on a trike, it’s not going to be easy!” said John speaking to Melksham News about his challenge.
Since 2010, the veteran has completed a number of cycling challenges – his last was in 2019, took part in the ‘Big Battlefield Bike Ride – Normandy Beaches’ to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
