MELKSHAM’S Town Crier, Peter Dauncey, turned out in his finery to support the town’s market as it continues to go from strength to strength.
The market which takes place every Tuesday from 9am-3pm has grown since its re-introduction to the town early last month. The number of stall holders has actually grown substationally to the point where a waiting list has had to be created by Wiltshire Council for those wanting to have a stall.
Tracey Morris, a markets officer for Wiltshire Council said, “It’s great that the community in Melksham has come out to support the market. I think its return has been long overdue and it is great to have the town crier here.
“Currently we have had to create a waiting list as demand to put up a stall has increased and it’s great to see so many people enjoying what’s on offer.”
Peter Dauncey, Melksham’s town crier said, “It is good to see a market back in Melksham as it is what the town needs. The next step is to increase the size of the market and ideally get it back to a central location such as in the Market Place.”
