Wiltshire Council gives 24 houses in Semington the green light but refuses large development

RESIDENTS of Semington can breathe a sigh of relief as Wiltshire Council refused an application to build 72 houses in the village earlier this month.

The application, submitted by Framptons Planning on behalf of Oxford Law,  was turned down on the grounds that the development ‘would be wholly out of scale and a disproportionate addition to the existing village of Semington,’ and ‘would have a harmful impact on the appearance of the countryside,’ due to its scale and location – the same reasons a previous application was refused in October for 75 houses to be built.

Almost 100 letters were submitted to Wiltshire Council rejecting the application which residents said would severely affect the dynamics of the village.

At the same planning meeting, Wiltshire Council gave the go-ahead for 24 houses to be built. Most villagers support the application and believe it is a ‘sustainable development’.
