The new women’s section of Melksham Ladies’ Rugby Club has secured a main sponsorship deal from local business Autoline Service Station in Spa Road.
Bruce Sanders said, “We are delighted to play a part in the development of Melksham Ladies RFC.
“It is an exciting time for women’s sport in general. Women’s rugby is proving very popular and it is all supported from grass roots clubs. The new facility in Melksham has encouraged people to join the game and we want to sponsor the ladies’ team so that the club can support players through youth, right through to seniors. We chose Melksham RFC as it has adopted all the core values as stipulated by the RFC that makes sport such a pleasure to watch; those being team work, discipline, respect, enjoyment and sportsmanship.
“Melksham RFC has a great team feeling both on the pitch and around the club house. The youth teams from under 6s to under 12s in all clubs do not participate in a league system, so competitive matches are more about player involvement rather than the pressure on the result. That’s not to say you do not play to win, but the coaches work on the development of each player and it is more inclusive than exclusive.
“Both boys and girls are very welcome in the club and like the ladies’ section, this is growing in popularity. The men’s seniors field three teams on a regular basis, which again allows for player development.”
The new season starts the first week in September and the boys’ and girls’ youth sections all meet at 10am on Sundays. The ladies train on Wednesdays at 6.30pm and the men train on Tuesday and Thursdays from 7pm. Further details are on the club website at www.melksham rfc.co.uk
