Writers launch anthology in aid of food bank

A group for writers in Melksham is publishing a collection of poetry and prose to raise funds for the food bank.

Milktown Writers Group is releasing its first anthology, ‘Condensed’, at the Melksham Food and River Festival, which takes place on 5th and 6th September.

All proceeds from the book sales will be donated directly to the Melksham Food Bank in an effort to support local residents facing food insecurity.

Group member Jade said, “The Melksham Foodbank is a vital local cause which has seen a steady demand for its services in recent years. Every copy of the anthology sold will directly fund food parcels and essential supplies for local families.”

The anthology celebrates the local waterways and the ‘universal joy’ of sharing a meal.

Jade said, “‘Condensed’ is a nod to Melksham’s food history as the home of one of the most vital processing facilities in the UK’s condensed milk and dairy industry.

“Nurturing creative and community endeavours, the anthology brings together local authors, offering readers a sensory journey through evocative poetry and captivating short stories.”

People can pick up a copy of the anthology from the food bank stall at the festival.

Jade said, “Members of the group will be on hand to chat about the book and share more about the local writing group. For those unable to attend the festival, reach out directly to Milktown Writers to purchase a copy.”

The Milktown Writers Group was founded in 2023 and meets monthly at the library to foster creative talent, share feedback and advice, support group members with their various projects and help with their writing development.
