YOUNG people in Melksham took part in a skate event during the Easter holidays, at the town’s skate park, organised by youth charity 4Youth (South West).
The event saw around 50 young people get involved with skating games and workshops at the skate park in the King George V Park, on Thursday 11th April.
“The event was an opportunity for young people to come along and get involved in a new event for Melksham,” explained Jessica Hilsdon, charity manager at 4Youth (South West). “Young people came in and out of the skatepark across the day as well while others enjoyed watching from the sidelines and in the park. Approx 50+ young people took part across the day.
“Skateboarding and scootering are great activities for young people with both physical and mental health benefits in
cluding improved balance, increased self-confidence, developing teamwork and communication as well as sportsmanship skills.”
The charity worked with ATB Skate from Swindon who ran games and competitions and gave young people a chance to showcase their skills. “Well done to everyone who won a competition and to those who tried new tricks and skills,” said Jessica.
“One of the highlights was everyone coming together, showcasing skills and supporting each other. Scooter Limbo was a blast with both young people and adults taking part.
“Thank you to Melksham Area Board for sponsoring the event and to Waitrose and Asda for their kind donations of bottles of water and fruit for all those who took part.”
The charity says it plans to run another skate event with ATB Skate to be held on Thursday 8th August with an event organised by Melksham Town Council
