YOUNG motorbike rider, Travis Vince, narrowly missed out on winning the N G Road Race Championship, being shy of two points from overall winner Peter Basile.
Both Travis Vince from Broughton Gifford and Melksham’s Russell Hynes were in action in the final round of the N G Road Race Championships, held at Oulton Park on Saturday 6th October.
Travis competed in the Dymag 250cc ACU National and N G Cup Championship on his TZ 250cc Yamaha. Prior to this round he was in second place in the N G Cup championship and with double points at stake, he had a chance of the title.
After qualifying, Travis was 11th fastest with championship leader, Peter Basile, in 23rd on his TZ 250cc Yamaha. Peter had to finish close to Travis to become this season’s cup champion.
Travis made a good start in the damp and difficult conditions and was in seventh place overall and second in the class and with Peter Basile lower down the field, Vince led the championship.
In the closing stages, Travis was passed by Paul McCullaugh in their dice for seventh and another twist was when Colin Mcdougall retired, which moved Peter Basile up to fourth place. Travis crossed the finish line in eighth place overall and second in the N G Cup class, but Peter Basile’s fourth in class saw him become this season’s N G Cup champion by just two points ahead of Travis.
Meanwhile Russell Hynes notched up fifth place in his Metzeler 700cc Streetstock race on his 675cc Triumph and had set some of his best times around Oulton Park.
