A CHILDREN’S rugby tournament will be held in Melksham next month to raise money for charity.
Six teams of under-nines rugby players will complete the last games of the Wiltshire Wooden Spoon’s floodlit tournament to raise money for disadvantaged children.
The rugby charity will hold the event at Melksham RFC, Oakfields, on Friday 3rd March. It will be its last event of the financial year, and the charity will be looking to donate £25,000 to helping disadvantaged children in the county.
Melksham will welcome youth teams from Devizes, Corsham, Salisbury, Pewsey Vale and Warminster.
Gareth John, chairman of Wiltshire Wooden Spoon said, “Every penny raised stays within our county to be spent on projects for disadvantaged young people. For example, during the past year we donated £50,000 to Rowdeford Special Needs School for a new outdoor learning facility.
“We are currently raising funds via grassroots rugby clubs in Wiltshire to be spent on projects recommended by all the rugby clubs who have participated.
“We are very proud of the support given by the youngsters, their parents and the clubs as a whole.”
The Melksham games will begin at 7pm.
