4Youth – formerly – Young Melksham – are excited to announce that most of their youth clubs, closed for the last 14 months due to the coronavirus pandemic, are reopening.
4Youth explain, “With the building having been made Covid-19 safe, young people can attend youth club sessions at The Canberra Centre on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to socialise with peers in a safe, purpose-built youth centre. The news follows updated guidance from the National Youth Association (NYA).
“The clubs that are now up and running are:
• Monday No Limits (SEND) night, 6:30pm-9pm, ages 13-25, £2 subs (advancing bookings only, please book on the 4youth website at https://4youth. org.uk)
• Wednesday Youth Club, 6:30pm-9pm, school years 7 & 8, £2 subs. No advance booking required, just turn up on the night
• Thursday Youth Club, 6:30pm-9pm, school years 9+, £2 subs. No advance booking required, just turn up on the night.
“4Youth are currently taking all precautions and following necessary procedures to make club nights as safe as possible from Covid-19, and young people are required to have a signed declaration form when attending clubs.”
Jack Oatley, youth centre coordinator says, “It’s fantastic that we’ve managed to get The Canberra Centre back up and running youth clubs again, and we are looking forward to seeing as many young people as we can back through the youth centre doors.”
Even though the centre-based youth clubs are restarting, 4youth’s Detached Youth Work team can still be found out and about in Melksham on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.
Chair of trustees, Jon Hubbard, added an assurance that all of the charities clubs would be reopening this year, “We are acutely aware that young people who were attending our Tuesday night club are clamouring to come back to Canberra and I would like to assure them that we are doing all we can to up and running again soon.
“Our current plans are that our Tuesday clubs will be reopening at the start of the new academic year in September, when we should be fully back to how things were before we had all heard of Coronavirus.
“Operating through the past year has been a huge challenge and I would like to take this opportunity to pay credit to our amazing youth work team and the wonderful organisations that have provided additional financial support to us to keep things going when our usual income streams were completely shut off. Special shout outs to the Wiltshire Community Foundation and Wiltshire Council.
“We can’t wait to see young people back in Canberra again and get back to doing what we do best – running awesome youth activities.”
