THE Conservative Club in Melksham has handed over a cheque for thousands of pounds to the Melksham and Corsham Gateway club following a race night.
At a presentation held at the club itself, Roger Denmark and Graham Stuart from the Gateway Club received the cheque for £2,100 from Paul Sims from the Conservative Club. The race night has been an annual event at the club for over 15 years and in that time has raised over £20,000 for the Melksham and Corsham Gateway Club. Roger Denmark from the Gateway club said, “It is fantastic what the Conservative Club do for us every year, we really do appreciate their efforts and we would like to say thank you. Over the years the money has been invaluable to the group as it has allowed them to take part in many activities and has allowed the group to continue.”
The Melksham and Corsham Club is a group aimed at providing opportunity for those with learning disabilities (and their families and carers) to obtain advice, guidance and support and offering the opportunity to participate in various recreational activities in a safe environment. In addition, the club applies various methods to advocate the rights, needs and wants of people with a learning disability to enable greater integration in the local community. The club meets on Thursdays at Melksham Baptist Church on Old Broughton Road. Call Jane on 07765 954665 for more details.
