A MELKSHAM carpet fitter is walking five miles a day to raise money for the NHS.
Local man, Malcolm Thomas, began his challenge on 25th August and four months and 615 miles later, will finish on Christmas Day, when he hopes to smash his £500 fundraising target.
“It’s going really well,” said Malcolm, “but I got wet a couple of times recently! But all in all, it’s going well and I hope to raise more money for the NHS.
“I generally walk around Melksham – I have a couple of routes that I take – and I upload videos from my walks to my Facebook page to keep people updated on what I do. Occasionally I have left Melksham and gone on day trips to go walking with my girlfriend Lorraine.”
Malcolm’s sponsored walk is the second challenge that he has tackled in recent months to raise money for the NHS. During lockdown, Malcolm raised over £400 by digging in his garden for 35 hours across seven days.
“I also offered support to the community through lockdown – I offered help, and someone to talk to – and a few people took me up on the offer. I tried to do what I could to help people.”
