A group of 12 residents gathered at the precinct in Melksham town centre last weekend to raise awareness surrounding the ongoing war in Gaza.
The group stood with banners and a Palestinian flag and raised £80 for the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians. Two of those taking part were local former doctors, Ian and Jill Cardy, both in their 90s, who helped encourage others to join.
“Some people were very aware of what is happening and voiced their concern that they believe our government is complicit in the genocide by sending arms and also reconnaissance planes over Gaza to give information to the Israeli army,” said one of the residents, Joan Phelan.
“One woman recounted Keir Starmer saying Israel had the right to withhold water and food.”
The residents plan to gather again on Saturday 2nd August, on Melksham High Street, from 10.30am to 12pm.
