Held in conjunction with the Melksham Food Festival and supported by The Royal Horticultural Society the Melksham Gardeners’ Society 5th annual show was truly an occasion for all residents of Melksham.
In the Young Exhibitors Section the overall winner in the three – eight years old was Freya Paterson and Maisie Marchant for the nine – 15 years old. There were demonstrations given by Wiltshire Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers, and also Local Quilters with a demonstration and display, plus at given times a propagation workshop where anyone could learn about creating new plants from existing, using cuttings. There was also bee keeping, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Wiltshire Alpine Garden Society, Seaweed Extract, Phoenix Cards to name but a few of the stands, there was plenty to do and see for all the family on a Sunday afternoon.
The main section winners were for Flowers – Arthur Ephgrave, Vegetables – Don Hyde, Fruit – Elizabeth Bean, Floral Art – Sylvia Booth, Cookery – Janey Cox, Handicrafts – Marilyn Mills and Photography – C. Randall. The Banksian Medal given by the Royal Horticultural Society for the overall show winner went to Don Hyde and the Chairman’s cup to Bernard Foreman.
This may have been the Melksham Gardeners’ Society annual Flower and Produce Show but the section with the highest number of people participating was cookery. Full results can be found on www. melkshamgardenerssociety.co.uk.
At the end of the afternoon the cups and medals were presented, including those for the 14 categories in the Melksham in Bloom Gardening Competition presented by the Mayor Chris Petty. The Melksham in Bloom results can be found on the town council web site www. melksham town.co.uk
