NEXT week’s Bowerhill Bomber has been cancelled due to unauthorised encampment on the land at Bowerhill Sports Pavilion. The event was due to take place on Sunday 18th July.
Organiser Tracey Hyde from Redfish Events said, “I feel the only safe option, is for me to unfortunately cancel the Bowerhill Bomber (Summer) 10K & 5K.
“I do not want to put my family, friends, marshals, runners, medical cover, chip timers and photographers in any uncomfortable/dangerous positions.
“I want Redfish events, to be enjoyable events and not to be remembered for the potential problems from the unauthorised encampment.
“I will be contacting everyone who has signed up and will be offering a transfer to another event or a full refund. Please look out for your email.
“Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to seeing you soon.”
The group of travellers set up camp in the sports field on the evening of Friday 2nd July – they were still on site when Melksham News went to press. Police and Wiltshire Council are attempting to move them on.
