TEENAGE singing sensation Izzy Felstead has had yet more success to follow her achievement in reaching the final of the national music competition TeenStar.
At the South of England finals in Fareham, Izzy, performed her own composition ‘No Turning Back’, which wowed the judges and secured her a place in the NEC Final in July. This song, which was recorded with Beanacre-based producer Mel Austin in February, was also entered for a national songwriting competition, organised by The Song Academy.
Izzy’s song did not win, but she picked up a prize for the best vocal performance in her age category, and has been asked to sing the song live with a band at the competition’s showcase event on Sunday 22nd June at The Westfield Centre in London’s Shepherd’s Bush shopping and Arts complex.
This comes on top of future dates at Melksham’s Party In The Park on Saturday 12th July, where she will share a 45 minute ‘up-and-coming youngsters’ slot with Melksham’s Courtney Buchanan and Bradford-on-Avon singer/songwriter, Tom Vigar; a Pilot gig on Wednesday 16th July; the TeenStar Final at the NEC, Birmingham, on Saturday 19th July, and Melksham Conservative Club gig on Saturday 6th September with Courtney and Jordan Cooke.
In addition to this, Izzy is writing a new original song for the final and recording an album with Mel. He said, “TeenStar has got in the way of all our plans for the album, but I’m really delighted at all the success she has been getting. She has great support from her family and Courtney has been mentoring her, which has been a real help.”
Izzy has also won two extra prizes from TeenStar for all the publicity she has managed to achieve. Dad, Julian said, “The local press and radio have been terrific in their support. We had a really great day at River Studios in Southampton after the regional finals, and now have a second day to organise at Two Rivers Studio in Cheltenham for later in the year, after she won another press prize for the semi-finals.”
Izzy’s album, which will contain a mix of covers and originals, is being recorded as part of a portfolio of evidence for application to The Brit School, where Izzy hopes to pursue her musical ambitions. Mel hopes this will be completed by the end of the summer break, with a view to launching it locally in the autumn.
