FOLLOWING pressure from local councillors, Wiltshire Council will provide a report on the progress of Melksham’s Campus in September.
It has been nine months since the last update on the campus’ project was given, when Wiltshire Council said the campus will be built “by 2019”. But once again feelings that the community are not being kept informed about the project are being felt.
Melksham town councillor, Martin Pain, addressed Wiltshire Council at a cabinet meeting last week and asked for a comprehensive report on the progress of the campus project as many people feel they are being ignored.
In the statement cllr Pain said, “As of today we have no idea about the current situation, what are the target dates for phased introduction of the various elements of the centre, nor even what is now included in its scope, nor how much has been spent to date and what are the outstanding problems and preferred solutions?
“Therefore, respectfully and fully cognizant of the work involved, we are requesting council to make available to the citizenry of Melksham a comprehensive report on the current state of the Melksham Health & Well-being Project and that this report should be made available by September 2017.”
Wiltshire Council has agreed to provide a report, which will be presented at the Melksham Area Board in September, followed by regular updates.
On the news, Cllr Pain added, “I have moved from very pessimistic to cautiously optimistic, noting that the statement by cllr Thompson of Wiltshire Council is just the beginning of a new information stream.
“I think that Wiltshire Council are agreeable to pressing the relationship reset button, as shown by their willingness to publicly answer my statement and the promise of a full, detailed and transparent report in September and updates thereafter at area board meetings.”
