SHAW Church is in need of urgent repair to stop the risk of closing with the people of Shaw and community actively raising money to cover the outstanding costs.
Following from Liam Richards’ bungee jump fundraising event seeing him raise over £800, the people of Shaw are grateful to hear that funding as been secured to begin work on the spire, being scheduled to start on Monday 20th November.
Sue Evans, churchwarden at Christ Church, Shaw said, “We do not have the entire amount needed, but a member of the congregation has kindly offered us an interest-free loan to enable us to start the work before the winter sets in, so we are still fundraising and we believe we still need to raise approximately £12,000.”
With money still left to find, the church is asking the community to help make up the shortfall by sponsoring a shingle.
For the price of £2, locals can have their name written on a shingle that will be used to restore the spire to its former glory. Sponsorship of six oak shingles is also available for £10.
