Macmillan Cancer Support held their annual ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ charity fundraiser, with Melksham venues joining in the initiative, which took place on Friday 28th September.
Local venues that took part this year included; Tops salon, West Country Educational, The Wishing Well, Specsavers, the Vicarage (St Andrew’s Church), Jess’ Army at Casa, Melksham Baptist Church, Seend Community Centre, Kestrel Court in Bowerhill, Travis Perkins Melksham and Wharf Court.
Seend Community Centre’s Macmillan coffee morning raised £671. Organiser Tessa Doe said, “It’s a record high for the community centre, which has hosted these coffee mornings for a number of years. Lots of people baked cakes, donated raffle prizes and helped on the day to make this such a success.”
Robbie Newton, assistant branch manager at Travis Perkins Melksham said, “After selling leftover cake to friends and family after work, I am proud to announce that £230 was raised at the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday at Travis Perkins in Melksham!”
Tenants and friends of Kestrel Court in Bowerhill held a Macmillan tea and cake afternoon on Thursday 27th September. Carolyn Burbidge, housing support officer said, “Everyone had a lovely afternoon to include a small auction and raffle and raised a fantastic £306.53 for this fantastic cause. I would like to thank everyone for their generosity and support.”
Wharf Court raised a total of £510, with more to come in after their cake sale, raffle and even a head shave for one of the residents!
The Vicarage raised £180 during their charity coffee morning.
Jess’ Army, a recent group started to help young mum Jessica Smith who has been diagnosed with cancer, held their coffee morning at Casa and raised £223.18.
