MELKSHAM Food For You has found a new home and now distributes excess food from local businesses at St Michael’s church room, but the hunt is now on for trustees, so the community scheme can register as a charity.
Kick-started by Kirstie McKeown at the end of April, Melksham Food For You is an initiative that collects food from local businesses at the end of the day that can’t legally be sold the next day, but is still fit for consumption.
Until recently, Kirstie and her team of volunteers have handed out food to struggling locals from the steps of the town hall, but after discussions with Revd Barry Blackford from St Michael’s Church, the community scheme has now been given access to continue their work from the St Michael’s church room.
“Being in the church room gives people more of an opportunity to sit down, have a chat and have a cup of tea. We can really get to know the people we are helping, and find out other ways to support them,” said Kirstie.
“I’m now going through the process of registering Melksham For You as a charity, but we need the support of at least three trustees to do so. So I am looking for volunteers from the community to help us.”

Melksham Food For You collects and distributes food after 6pm on weekdays from the St Michael’s church room and after 5pm on weekends.
