
MELKSHAM Town Council handed out almost £34,000 to local groups at a meeting last week.
50 clubs, teams, organisations, events and charities from Melksham and the surrounding area received a total of £33,800 from the town council at its annual grants evening.
Mayor of Melksham, councillor Terri Welch said, “As always the town council is delighted to be able to support so many valuable services in our town.
“The voluntary sector does a brilliant job in entertaining, supporting and providing services for Melksham, and these grants are to acknowledge the hard work done by so many local people.”
The groups given the largest grants were Wiltshire Citizens Advice (£5,500); Melksham Tourist Information Centre (£3,000); Melksham Seniors and 55+ Forum (£2,950); while the Food and River Festival, Party in the Park and Young Melksham each received £2,000 each.
The other recipients were: Carnival & Family Fun Day (£1,250); Wiltshire Mind (£1,000); Saint Michael and All Angels Church (£1,000); West Wilts Model Car Club (£900). £750 was given to Back on Track Stroke Rehab Service; Forest Community Centre; Girlguides Association; Wiltshire School of Gymnastics; £600 to Melksham Search & Rescue; £500 to Wiltshire Community Area Partnership; Rock ‘n’ Roll Club; Devizes & District; £400 to Opportunity Centre; Group Five; Melksham Shed ; Splitz Support Service; Wilts & Berks Canal Trust; £300 to Alzheimer’s Support; Beanacre & Melksham Cricket Club; Enigma; PHAB Club; Railway Users Group; Relate Mid Wiltshire; Sixty Plus Club; £275 to 2385 Melksham Squadron ATC; £250 to Bobby Van Trust; Carer Support Wiltshire; Gardeners Society; Rachel Fowler Centre; St John Ambulance; £200 to Aero Badminton Club; AFC Melksham; Happy Circle Day Centre; Multiple Sclerosis Therapy (Wessex); ReadEasy Melksham; Wiltshire Sight; £150 to West Wilts Special Needs Activity Scheme; £100 to Bless Melksham; Druids Field Archers; Historical Association; Neighbourhood Watch; Royal Air Forces Association; £75 to Choral Society; £50 to Cactus & Succulent Society.
