It has been a disappointing season for Melksham Town which has seen the team underperform, says club chairman Darren Perrin.
The team finished 16th in the Southern League Division One South with ten wins, ten draws and 16 defeats but still saw average crowds of over 400, one of the best in the division.
“Town started the season with high hopes and started the season really well,” Darren told Melksham News. “After five games we had amassed 11 points with three wins and two draws. But after a very disappointing performance and result away to AFC Stoneham in the FA Cup, we then went on a really poor run, until just before Christmas when we beat Paulton Rovers 5-0 and then should have won at Frome Town on Boxing Day.
“Apart from a win at Bashley early in the New Year, we then had another poor run of results which left everyone at the club looking over their shoulders at relegation. Fortunately, the team produced three wins in a week, away to Mousehole and home to Bideford and Bemerton to ease any relegation worries.
“In our last two home games against Frome and Wimborne, we had over 2,200 spectators watching which was fantastic
“It must be said that we had under-performed and it has been a disappointing season but the weather and injuries certainly impacted the side although we cannot use that as an excuse.
“But the club averaged over 400 people again this season which is fantastic and just goes to show how great our supporters are.
“The club would also like to thank all our sponsors, volunteers and everyone who has supported and help the club during the season.
“We can confirm six unbelievable pre-season games at home (to be announced very shortly) and that the reserves are in their cup final on Saturday May 11th at 3pm at Corsham Town against Larkhall Athletic.
