Old hearing aids can now be donated to help deaf children in the developing world and Eastern Europe.
You can take your pre-loved hearing aids to C S Bowyer Funeral Directors in Bank Street, Melksham who have partnered with Hearing Technology Hear Today, Hear Tomorrow (HTHTHT), who recover and reuse redundant hearing aids, helping to transform lives around the world.
Jamie Hawke from CS Bowyer said, “Last year I met an organisation at the National Funeral Exhibition called Hearing Technology, Hear Today, Hear Tomorrow. They collect old hearing aids and recycle them to provide people in less fortunate parts of the world the opportunity to hear.
“It’s something that I felt was a great idea as I remember my granddad had a drawer full of these old devices that just went to waste. I’ve been working with Zoe, who is the founder of the scheme, on how we can support the effort across the region. This is a great initiative.”
A spokesperson from HTHTHT said, “The cost-of-living crisis has affected every sphere of our lives, from the supermarkets we choose to shop in, to the number of lights we have on in our homes. Many are struggling to pay their bills, let alone give to others – resulting in a decline in donations. Charities Aid Foundation (CFA) reported nearly five million fewer people donated to charity between January to April 2022 compared to 2019.
“HTHTHT regularly send aid and audiologists to train key workers on the ground as far as Pakistan, where a drop camp in a village near Rawalpindi recently helped over 100 people, aged 10 to 90, in five days.
“We were thrilled to be contacted by C S Bowyer to say that they had a collection of hearing aids ready to be despatched.”
Co-founder of HTHTHT, Zoe Fawcett-Eustace said, “I feel incredibly passionate about Hearing Technology, Hear Today, Hear Tomorrow and am delighted that C S Bowyer and Dignity are supporting us. I was profoundly deaf by 19 and had always been disheartened when I was advised to put my ‘older’ hearing aids in the bin following their replacement/upgrade. That is what inspired me to start HTHTHT, in a world of scarce resources and much need, it’s terrible to waste life changing hearing aids.”
