Sat. 11th Jan. Dorset & Wilts 1 North – Melksham 48 Bradford on Avon 5
In windy conditions Melksham defeated Bradford on Avon in an 8 to 1 try game at Oakfields.
In form Adam Davies scored three for the home team with a man of the match performance.
The visitors started well, keeping possession of the ball in the first quarter, starving the home side of opportunity. When the break came, Melksham worked their way upfield and out to Full Back Davies to finish the run into the corner for the first points of the day. A battle centre field ended with a strong carry from Scott Davis out to the wing for Connor Randall to touchdown for his first of the season. The trend repeated a minute later for Phil Stone to score following hard yards gained by Captain Nick Suter, closing the half 15-0.
On the restart, BOA kicked deep for the corner, with the wind, subsequently reclaiming the ball to score. The home team response was an emphatic one, despite dogged determination from the visitors. Suter broke off the back of a scrum 15 metres out to power in under the posts for the bonus point. Alistair Smith added the conversion. In control now, Melksham’s Oli Cooper broke through defenders offloading to the following Davies for his second, Smith adding the extras. Two more converted tries from Luke Cador and Sam Norris stretched the lead out of reach for the visitors. The final points of the day from Davies fielding a deep return kick and running it back with his elusive pace, wrong-footing defenders for a great individual try, bringing the final score to 48-5
