MELKSHAM raised the Commonwealth flag for the first time ever on Monday to celebrate Commonwealth Day.
The flag was raised outside the Town Hall in the presence of Mayor Terri Welch, town crier Peter Dauncey, and pupils from the Manor School and Aloeric who joined the celebration.
A specially written Commonwealth Affirmation was read out before the raising of the Commonwealth flag, which flew over the Town Hall until the next morning.
The flag, which is navy blue with a yellow globe, was raised when Melksham joined over 730 other locations across the world in the celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations
The Commonwealth includes all current and historic British territories, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Gibraltar.
