IT’S been all about ‘food glorious food’ for children at Bowerhill Primary School recently, who have been on a taste adventure to learn about different foods from around the world.
The project has been supported by some of Melksham’s community and beyond and has involved a pizza-making workshop at local restaurant Casa; Melksham curry house Cinnamon donating different types of curry, rice, poppadom and naan bread; a chef from the Mill at Rode visiting to teach out children how to make bread rolls; and Sainsbury’s Chippenham donating fruit and vegetables from all over the world.
One pupil, Phoebe, said, “I didn’t like the pomegranate seeds or the grapefruit but I did like the cheese rolls. The best bit was the cheese!”
Another pupil, Heidi, said, “When we made the bread, I liked kneading the dough. It was interesting to see all of the different vegetables and fruit.”
Head teacher Chris Light said, “This term, we have been blown away by the support we have had from our school community in supporting these authentic outcomes by providing these experiences for our children in reception.
“We are very proud of our curriculum at Bowerhill. We try to bring our children’s learning to life wherever we can and a big part of this is using our local community wherever we can. These range across the school, from every year group being taught by a specialist music teacher, every year group going to Wiltshire School of Gymnastics, emergency services visits, Year 5 working with local chocolatier Hollychocs, Year 6 working with local financial advisor Tom Porter, to name just a few.
“We have been blown away by the support of the local community in helping us bring this to life and would like to publicly thank them for their support.”
