Melksham Lions have been overwhelmed with donations of laptops and other IT devices to help local schoolchildren.
The day after the last issue of Melksham News began distribution, which featured a story about the Melksham Lions’ appeal, the local group reported receiving 18 donations of IT devices. And in the following days that number has continued to rise – the current total stands at 28.
The day after Melksham News began distribution, Lions member Sue Whyborn said, “Since the report in the Melksham News about Melksham Lions collecting laptops for schoolchildren, we have received 11 laptops, 6 iPads/tablets and a computer! And the paper only came out yesterday! Thank you so much. We are still collecting!”
Items collected by Melksham Lions, who are working with other Lions clubs in the area, are given to Wiltshire Digital Drive at Priority IT Ltd, Westbury, for refurbishment and distribution to schoolchildren in north Wiltshire including Melksham.
The Lions say, “Our collection is ongoing and you can donate surplus laptops etc to our collection point with Lion member, Paul Buxton at ‘Clematis’ 595B Semington Rd, Melksham SN12 6DY or phone 0345 8337401. Please observe the Covid regulations.”
