MELKSHAM’S favourite events have begun making their triumphant post-lockdown return for 2021.
After over a year of cancellations, postponements and staying inside, Melksham residents will be spoilt for choice for events in the months ahead.
And festivities got off to a flying start at the weekend with the return of the Melksham Makers’ Market in the Market Place and the artisan goods and local produce market at Avonside. Organisers of the Makers’ Market, Sarah Hillman and Nicola Coleman, told Melksham News, “We are so pleased to be back for our first market of the year. We are thrilled to see so many people out and enjoying the stalls.”
Other events scheduled in the town’s social calendar is the return of the Melksham Food and River Festival, which has almost 40 stalls booked; the Christmas Lights switch-on; and a day to remember for football fans as Melksham Town FC welcomes the Manchester United legends for the third time on Sunday 1st August.
And over in Atworth, the White Hart pub is preparing for its first post-lockdown community event next month, teaming up with the Atworth Artisan market for a “welcome back” event to remember on Sunday 9th May, with over 30 stalls.
The Melksham Makers’ Market will be held monthly on the last Saturday of the month, through to October.
The artisan market at Avonside takes place on the last Sunday of each month, selling hand crafted goods and local produce.
Speaking to Melksham News, Melksham’s mayor, cllr Pat Aves, said, “All this provides vital support for the local economy and emphasises the wider economic importance of our events and festivals sector as well as all the community benefits conferred – enabling people to meet up, socialise and celebrate.
“I urge our event organisers to let us all know your plans for 2021 just as soon as you can. Together, we can propel Melksham into 2021, in higher spirits, and ready to tackle all the other challenges which will undoubtedly unfold.”
