Engineering Technician Stephen Morris, 21, from Melksham has recently graduated as a Weapon Engineer from HMS Collingwood, Fareham in Hampshire after completing his Phase 2 training with Victory Squadron.
He received his certificate from guest of honour Commodore Graeme Little OBE, Deputy Chief Naval Engineer Officer at a special ceremony recently.
Stephen joined the Royal Navy in June 2015 to follow in his father’s footsteps. “It was something I was used to and heard all of the good stories growing up; I thought it was time I made my own stories,” he said.
Originally from Melksham where his parents Kim and David live, Stephen is an ex pupil of Wiltshire College. He is now looking forward to joining his first ship and using what he has learnt in a practical sense. At HMS Collingwood Stephen successfully completed the recently modernised Weapon Engineering Technicians’ Course. He has been trained using the very latest engineering training methods and he has successfully proven his competence to operate, maintain, diagnose faults and repair complex weapon, sensor, communications and information systems.
He has also gained vital awareness of engineering and explosives safety. These skills will enable him to become a vital member of a ship’s Weapon Engineering Department, providing world beating operation capability while globally deployed.
HMS Collingwood is the home of the Maritime Warfare School which contributes to the operational capability of the Fleet by providing first class training to all officers and ratings of the Royal Navy in their professional specialisations which include, Weapon Engineering, Communications, and Warfare.
