Four members of Broughton Gifford Bowls Club are celebrating their recent success of achieving the prestigious ‘Hot Shots’ by having all eight bowls count in one end, a rare and celebrated feat in the bowling community
Members Roger Warburton, Keith Darby, Denis Berrelly and Steve Pember made the achievement during a league match at Trowbridge.
To mark the accomplishment, the quartet has each received a signed certificate by 15-times World Champion Tony Allcock OBE, a Hot Shots badge and a set of Hot Shots stickers for placing on their set of bowls.
This achievement has been recognised by the monthly periodical Bowls International magazine and could be featured in its August edition.
Speaking about the successful team members, club member Mervyn Davies, said, “Roger Warburton is a good lead. He is the first player in the team to bowl. His trusty left arm delivers his bowls consistently close to the white object ball, known as the jack, thereby giving his team the ideal start.”
“Keith Darby is our No.2. Keith has a lovely smooth delivery and follow through which is easy on the eye. He bowls a consistent line and length into the head and is equally comfortable bowling backhand or forehand.
“Denis Berrelly played at Trowbridge as No.3. He is also a more than useful utility player, able to play in any position asked of him. Denis is comfortable bowling to any length of jack.
“Skip Steve Pember only joined the club at the beginning of the season. An experienced bowler, he has seamlessly slotted into the Broughton Gifford team. Steve is quite happy to assume the position of skip. He has a wide range of shots in his locker which are used to good effect when required,” Mervyn added.
