MELKSHAM Town’s under 8s team is hoping to go on a football tour this season but to do so, needs sponsorship.
The team would like to attend the Isle of Wight Junior Football Festival in May next year, but need at least £1,000 to pay for transport and accommodation.
Coach Tom Crawford said, “Melksham Town Hurricanes U8 have just started the 2017/18 with a squad of seven players who are participating in the 5v5 Mid Wilts League. These players have been playing together for the past two and a half years, continuing to develop the skills and love for the game both individually and as a team.
“The boys have competed in various local tournaments over the last two years but have never had the opportunity to go on tour until now. It isn’t unusual for an U8s team to go on tour, you will see and hear about lots of clubs benefiting from these types of opportunities as there are numerous tours on offer. However, this is very much a team effort with both manager, coach, parents and players all taking part in fundraising which will go towards travel costs in order to make this a reality.
“The opportunity is really important for the players. It’s one of those events young players will remember for years to come. There is nothing better then going away with your mates participating in the sport you love to play. It’s not every day an eight year-old has the opportunity to travel to compete in an international football tournament.
“The team we have today is an extremely close-knit group, with most of them going to school together and therefore spending so much time with each other on and off the field. The trust and confidence they have in each other continues to grow every time they take to the field.
“The team is ideally looking for two local businesses, each sponsoring £500, who would be willing to support us on this fantastic opportunity. In return, the team can offer them unprecedented media coverage including a photo shoot at The Oakfields Stadium, a story in the local newspaper, mentions on social media and their business name and logo on the back of training tops.
“It’s not only about the financial implications, but also about further establishing relationships between the local community and businesses and Melksham Town Football Club.”
