CARNIVAL excitement is rising as the town prepares to line the streets for this year’s procession.
The Melksham Carnival procession takes place next week on Saturday 29th June from 6pm, a month earlier than previous years – so be sure to make a note in your diary so you don’t miss out.
Final preparations for the carnival are being made, but there’s still plenty of time to be involved. Carnival committee members are encouraging local groups, organisations, businesses and individuals to still take part and submit their entry forms as soon as possible.
Committee chair, Becky Burchell told Melksham News, “We’ve got some really exciting entries already listed for this year’s procession. I know that Meads of Melksham have got something really exciting planned, and the carnival royalty, as always, will look lovely.
“But there is still time to get your entry forms in and be involved in one of the highlights of Melksham’s year.”
Carnival committee member, Christine York added, “The carnival procession is an excellent way to highlight your business, charity or organisation. So please contact us via our Facebook page for an entry form – we need them filled in and returned to us as soon as possible. We are hoping for a procession that will rival those from previous years – the past couple of years have been excellent, so there’s a lot to live up to.
“It has rained the past two years, so hopefully it’s third time lucky this year and we’ll have some good weather to enjoy. But no matter what the weather, the town always comes out to support the carnival – so we hope to see the streets full of people of all ages.
“Please bring along your money for the collection boxes – all money collected goes back into the carnival. We couldn’t run this event without people’s donations and the sponsorship from local businesses. So please look out for bucket collectors on the day.”
