PRESSURE from local residents has persuaded local authorities to agree to work together to install new lighting along the path through ‘the Woody’ park, adjacent to Queensway.
Residents have recently complained about the lack of lighting in the area, describing it as ‘dangerous’ and a risk to people’s safety.
New LED lamps are expected to be installed along the pathway through the park – that connects Queensway with Ruskin Avenue – in the near future.
Melksham Town Council, Wiltshire Council and Selwood Housing, who all have some responsibility for the land, have agreed to work together to install the lighting.
A spokesperson for the town council said, “Melksham Town Council wishes to thank the many residents who have been in touch to voice concerns regarding insufficient lighting along the pathway from Queensway to Ruskin Avenue (alongside Clacker’s Brook and through the wooded play area.)
“This area is owned by different bodies, while the grass and play areas are leased and maintained by Melksham Town Council. While we are not directly responsible for lighting columns through this area, please rest assured that the town council is coordinating with these groups and has arranged for a solo contractor to correct the problems and bring light to this walkway very soon.”
