MELKSHAM Town Council has been filling an empty shop on Lowbourne with art displays for the past five months to brighten up a vacant space and celebrate the local artistic talent in Melksham.
Currently, the space has a photographic display from Bryan Clover of local charity Evie’s Gift, and previously the space has featured Laura Richards, Sue Brown, Sue Barrett, Matthew Clifford and Joy Jefferys. Future displays from Pamela Bridgen, Susan Hames and Uriel Miller are scheduled.
Bryan Clover said, “Evie’s Gift is chuffed to bits to be able to display our photographs for the next two weeks. Not only does it raise awareness of who we are and what we do to help the parents of critically-ill children, but it brings a surge of colour to the town centre.”
Matthew Clifford, whose exhibition included portraits of Winston Churchill, the Joker and Patrick Stewart, said, “It’s been great helping bring art to the town, I hope there is much more to come. Maybe even some permanent murals in the future?”
The Town Council is grateful to Henry King from Kavanaghs who helped secure use of the premises, and to Andrew Butcher, the landlord who has given permission.
Anyone who is interested in future exhibitions or in offering new spaces to exhibit in can get in touch by calling the Town Hall on 01225 704187 or emailing miriamzaccarelli@melksham-tc.gov.uk.
