LOCAL man Mike Young, is currently growing half a beard and half a head of hair to raise funds for the Wiltshire Mind charity shop in Melksham.
Mike, who is a volunteer for charity, has taken over the baton from Chas March, who raised over £11,000, with his impressive half ginger beard.
Mike said, “I truly believe all the amazing work that Wiltshire Mind does, is vital for the community and without it, a lot of people would suffer. I’m passionate about raising awareness surrounding mental health and also I’d like to raise a lot of money for the charity. It relies solely on donations, so it is important to support it financially.
“So many people rely on the service and it makes an impact on their lives in a huge way. It’s great that the money goes back into Melksham and the community and helps local people directly.
“My family and friends think I’m slightly crazy but they fully support me and are right behind me. I’m more than happy to look like an idiot for six months if it’s doing some good. You can’t always tell someone is struggling with mental health problems and they themselves may not realise they are struggling with certain things and need help. Hopefully by standing out with the way I look, people will ask me questions and help me raise the money and awareness.”
Mike’s appearance will remain eye catching until 31st December. You can donate at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/mikeyoung2
