Melksham hosted Minety in their penultimate game with part of the team away on the club’s mini tour.
The reshaped team got off to a cracking start in the opening minutes with winger Callum Gillard receiving the ball from the lineout to score in the corner. 20 minutes later the play repeated itself with Gillard shrugging off two defenders to score again.
Gillard was not to be denied and scored his third turning in to score under the posts, Simon Foster adding the extras. The pattern continued against strong defence until, on the other wing, Adam Davies struck in the corner closing the half 22-0 up.
Minety rallied with some strong scrummaging to stall the first half domination by the home team, until centre Phil Stone struck to score his first. The momentum with the home team continued with hooker Jack Hiscox breaking away with pace to score down the wing.
In free flow the home team were to strike three times more, No. 8 Steve Watson with individual strength and direct running beating defenders for his brace, and finally Stone powering to the line, for his second, closing the game 47-0.
Skipper Callum Hurn said, “With players away on our Mini’s tour it was great to see our strength in depth put to the test. Each player put his hand up today to answer the call for an extraordinary effort and rewarded us with nine tries, especially sweet, having lost to Minety away earlier in the season.”
