Financial backers pledged funds to Melksham Comic Con through Kickstarter, a website that allows members of the public to donate funds to causes, in exchange for a small gift.
Comic Con reached its £5,000 goal target, thanks to over 110 backers. The target was given a huge boost when an anonymous backer pledged £2,500 to the community event.
The convention will go ahead as planned on over two days on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st of August at Melksham Assembly Hall. It will be the first time the event is held over two days in what organisers feel will be the biggest and best Melksham Comic Con yet. Hayley Spencer, organiser of the comic con said, “It’s absolutely incredible news and we would like to say thank you to everyone that donated no matter how big or small we really do appreciate it. We had over 110 people pledge money and select rewards to get us to this point. Individuals pledging for tickets and exclusive posters, businesses pledging for advertising space, people not just from the local area pledged cash.
“This achievement means that not only will this year’s convention go ahead, with us pulling out all the stops, it also means that all the profits from this year’s event goes into next year’s event, and so on, so this secures Melksham Comic Con on the local events calendar for years to come!
“We are still very much not-for-profit, and will be offering advertising and sponsorship opportunities, as every penny really does make a difference and means we can make each event bigger and better for everyone.”
Melksham Comic Con celebrated a successful first two years with Hayley promising this year’s event to be “bigger and better.”
“We already have more guest artists and illustrators than last year’s event by miles as we are over two days, there will be loads going on!”
