Melksham opticians go pink for charity

STAFF at the Melksham branch of Specsavers raised £250 from a pink-tastic fundraising event for Breast Cancer Care  last week.

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the team at Specsavers on Bank Street donned pink t-shirts and covered the store in pink decorations for a week, to raise funds for the national charity.

Their fundraising included a homemade cake sale and a ‘Guess the name’ competition to win a teddy bear. The winning name, Tallulah, was chosen from a list of 50 by customer Sharon Pearce, who took the bear home.

Store manager Julie Burrage said, “The whole team wanted to support this initiative as most of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer. There is of course a serious message behind what we’re doing, but it’s good fun fundraising for a really important cause. In fact we were only supposed to dress up for a day but we liked the pink so much we kept it all week!”

The team also raised money last month for Dorothy House, holding a ‘pyjama day’ in-store after Julie completed the Bath Midnight Walk.
