Melksham Rugby Swindon ll v Melksham 1st 17-38

Melksham 1st travelled away to the Swindon ground to try to keep their winning momentum.

Following the minutes’ silence for Armistice Day Melksham were to strike first with a touch of skill from scrumhalf Callum Hurn, collecting his own chip kick ahead then fixing the defenders and passing to the charging Ben Smith to score under the posts, Alistair Smith adding the conversion.

Swindon rallied and started to build through their forwards and pressurised the Melksham line, the resulting maul capitalising with a converted try. The visitors struck back with their own forwards now combining to take the lead through Captain Charlie Radcliffe, Alistair Smith adding the extras.

Sadly, a significant injury to one of the Swindon players was sufficient to cause transferring to their second pitch. On the restart, Swindon had found some momentum and scored another try and shortly afterwards a penalty, to take the lead 17-14.

Melksham gathered, regaining their form and attacking prowess with Jacek Gronkowski going in out wide, his first for the team. With some positional rearrangements, Melksham were in the driving seat, Callum Hurn scoring and converting his own try to add seven points to the tally. The visitors continued ramping up the pressure with good rugby skills, Dave Dyke scoring to ease away from Swindon. Flanker Phil Stone was next to score showing his pace and direct running to score, Hurn adding the extras to see the final score 17 – 38. Man of the match awarded to Alex Cox for his work rate and strong carries.
