Fri. 11th January. Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts 1 North Melksham 22 Sutton Benger 12
Melksham hosted Sutton Benger for their return fixture at Oakfields.
A competitive game under lights on Friday evening saw the home team triumphant, 22-12.
The visitors were off to a quick start, kicking deep into the home territory and from a line out taken on the five-metre line, shipped the ball back inside to score in the corner.
Five minutes later Melksham were to produce a carbon copy of that score to level it, winger Jamie Shipman crossing for the home team. Ten minutes later the home team got their nose in front from a penalty struck by scrum half Callum Hurn. Possession changed hands in a closely-contested game where defence was the key and the score stood 8-5 at half time.
On the restart both teams battled for the next points. It was to come from Callum Hurn with a quick tap and go from a penalty, stepping through the defenders to go in under the posts, Hurn converting his own score.
The visitors never relaxed and were rewarded with a converted try to get within three points again. Melksham responded with a quick break from Rory Mulgrew, from the half way line, fixing his defender and passing to the charging Luke Cador outpacing defenders to score.
Hurn adding the extras, the score 22 -12 at the final whistle.
