A MELKSHAM company and its customers raised £850 in just one month for Dorothy House Hospice Care.
David Carson, owner and manager of Carson Tyre & Autocare said, “We were absolutely delighted with the response we got from customers.
“We asked customers during April to donate £1 for every car tyre they bought. Although a few declined, this was more than made up for by those who offered to pay an additional amount. Our customers raised a total of £425, which we match-funded to make a grand total of £850.”
Jennifer Green, Dorothy House fundraising manager said, “We were delighted when David approached us and offered to fundraise for us in this way. He got the idea when he was on holiday in Wales, and a restaurant he visited was running a similar initiative for a local charity.
“I hope David’s success will encourage other small businesses and sole traders to support us in this way. Dorothy House is keen to work with businesses across north and west Wiltshire, Bath and Somerset, where it provides services to 700 patients and their families every day.”
David added, “We have never done anything like this before so didn’t know what to expect. We set ourselves a target of £500 for the month, which we thought was probably challenging but achievable, so raising £850 was a real bonus.
“While Dorothy House is a well-known and well-respected charity locally, what really surprised us was the number of people who had involvement with the hospice – either through friends or relatives having been cared for by Dorothy House or from fundraising themselves.”
