Having played in only two friendly games, new bowler, Richard Mizen, made his league debut as lead, when Broughton Gifford Bowls Club visited top-of-the-table Warminster on the 13th July for the return Mid Wilts League match.
With advice and guidance from skip, Ray Thomas, Richard soon settled down to the task in hand and it wasn’t long before he was matching and at times getting the better of the more experienced opposition lead.
Finding themselves eight shots behind early in the game, the Broughton threesome gradually fought their way back into contention and by scoring one shot on the last end, a tense and exciting game finished level at 19-19. Warminster won overall by seven shots and 11-3 points in what was a very fine and keenly contested game across all four rinks.
The following Thursday Broughton achieved a league double over visitors Westbourne, with a comfortable 72-55 shots and 12-2 points victory.
Teams and winning scores; K Darby, D Elkins & V Davis 19-9; R Mizen, M Davies & H Arlett 20-10; R Warburton, N Hughes & G Whitfield 18-13.
