MELKSHAM Town Council is pressing ahead with plans to introduce a new town council leader role.
The creation of the new role, which could come into force by the end of the year, would impact the role of Melksham’s mayor, changing it to a ceremonial position.
The proposal was discussed at a extraordinary full council meeting last month, and in a change to the original proposal, which would have seen the changes come into force immediately, the council voted in favour of forming a working party to explore what the new council structure should look like.
The working party will present a proposal for the changes at the next full council meeting on Monday 25th November. If approved, it is expected that an extraordinary meeting will be called for the following week, to elect the new council leader.
