SNARLTON Lane could be set for a new 20mph speed zone after data was collected from two metrocounts.
Traffic was recorded between 28th November and 6th December 2014 which showed a mean average speed of 22.1mph and 20.1 mile an hour. Because the mean speed was below 24mph and there is additional housing developments in the area it means Wiltshire Council will now consider a new 20mph zone – replacing the current 30mph limit.
The recommendation for a new 20mph zone came from the Melksham Community Area Transport Group and is supported by Melksham Without Parish Council.
The Wiltshire Council report says, “Based on the analysis of the speed and collision data for Snarlton Lane and comparing these results with Wiltshire Council Policy on implementing 20mph speed limits and zones, it is recommended that Snarlton Lane be considered for a 20mph speed limit. It is estimated the cost to implement this scheme would be in the region of £3,000.”
