A free pre-Glastonbury warm-up gig was held in King George V Park earlier this month, with Somerset-based musician Sam Evans and his self-titled band performing for the community.
The gig was held on Friday 21st June, with residents turning out for an evening of original music performed by Sam and his band, who beat more than 1,000 artists in a competition earlier this year to play at Glastonbury Festival.
“When you are a musician, you are used to different levels of set-up so you don’t quite know what to expect. We were really happy with the sound onstage and the lighting on the stage was nice as well. It’s these kinds of things that level up the performance,” explained Sam.
“Despite the change of weather in the evening, people still turned up and they bought their chairs, it was a fairly good turn-out!
“We played all original songs ahead of our gig at Glastonbury. What was ironic was that the set we did in Melksham was one hour and a half and the set at Glastonbury was half an hour, so Melksham got a lot more than what Glastonbury got!
The event was organised by Melksham Town Council. Deputy mayor, cllr Saffi Rabey, who attended the event said, “It was fantastic. Seeing so many people out enjoying our park and listening to a band whose next stop is Glastonbury was great to see. As a town council, we are all really proud to make things like this happen.”
