
MELKSHAM Rotary Club last month gave out over £8,000 to local groups and charities as part of its bi-annual community grants scheme.
16 groups received a total of £8,600 at a cheque presentation evening at the end of November. Representatives of the charities and clubs received the money from members of the Rotary Club at the Art House Cafe in the Market Place which is run by the Rotary Club.
The biggest sums were £1,000 donated towards the setting up of a leg club, £1,000 to local mental health charity Wiltshire Mind, and £950 to Wiltshire Search and Rescue for a lowland rescue first response bag.
Other recipients included Melksham air cadets, ABLE mental health charity, homeless charity Amber, Carer Support Wiltshire, Devizes Opportunity Group, Harmony, Melksham Seniors, Read Easy, Royal Air Force Association, Back on Track stroke rehab service, The Shed, Wiltshire and District Girl Guiding and Wiltshire Bobby Trust.

Melksham Rotary Club also recently donated £100 worth of food to Melksham Foodbank.
Rotary Club president Verly Ives said, “This donation will hopefully make a huge difference to those people in our community struggling to afford food, especially at Christmas.”
