Friends of St George’s Primary School held the hugely successful Semington Slog 10k and Fun Run on Saturday 9th May in the small village of Semington.
It was a true community event with teachers, friends of the school , villagers and boat dwellers all helping out to ensure the event was a success; even the local pub, the Somerset Arms helped out offering a well deserved pint to the marshals.
During this event 100 runners set off on a fantastically varied multi terrain route, including road, bridleway and canal tow path. Many runners were from local running clubs and enjoyed a cool, cloudy start, but by the time runners finished the sun was shining. Semington Slog 10k medals were awarded to all finishers, as well as finisher bags and a delicious barbecue hot dog. Trophies were awarded to the winners.
First Male Gary Dunstone of Chippenham Harriers in a time of 35 mins 26 seconds.
First Female Kate Hailes of Avon Vally Runners 44 mins 36secs.
First Male Veteran was Andrew Hawkins also of AVR with a time of 40 mins 16 secs.
First Female Veteran-Helen King of Town and Country Harriers with a time of 47 mins 16 secs.
A prize was also awarded to the First Semington Villager who was Fabrice Gagneux in 46 mins 28 secs. DB Max did an amazing job at organising chip timing and runners were impressed with the time print outs at the finish. Race results also feature on their website.
The George and the Dragon Fun Run was enjoyed by all, with many children dressed up as George, dragons or princesses! Medals and certificates were awarded to runners and a huge congratulations to Joshua Davis for crossing the line first.
A comment on the school’s Facebook page from an entrant stated, “Thank you for today. The event was excellent. Parking was made extremely easy by the lovely marshals, registration was quick and smooth. Great course and fab organisation. I will definitely run it again next year.”
Friends of St George’s Primary School have received amazing feedback from runners and plan to run the event again next year, and send a huge thanks to the following companies for supporting the event: ASDA, Sainsburys, AJR Car Parts, Cooper Tires, Trowbridge Domestic Services, The Spirit Sanctuary, Beautiful Nice, The Nail Garden and Little Pickles Market.
