MELKSHAM Flag Group have decorated the Market Place with flags to champion women’s football to coincide with the Women’s World Cup which is now taking place.
The flags – designed and made by volunteers in the Melksham Flag Group – display bright colours with an image of a female football player.
A member of the group, Terri Welch said, “Every year, the flag group make flags for the T posts in the Market Place to decorate the town for various events and festivities throughout the year.
“In addition, the past couple of years has seen us making banners for the town hall, Jubilee and Coronation. The flag group is an offshoot of Bloom but with different people with different skills. Both groups look to beautify our town.
“Every year the flags are designed by Andy Marshall and then it is over to the ladies to sew them.”
The flags are funded totally by Melksham in Bloom. Terri said, “We try to keep costs down by looking for materials at the Scrap Store at Bowden Hill, a brilliant place for finding treasures.”
The Women’s World Cup is currently taking place in Australia and New Zealand with the final on Sunday 20th August in Sydney, Australia.
