Students raise money with creative challenge

STUDENTS at Melksham Oak School raised over £360 for the RUH through a Christmas ‘creative challenge’.

Students from years eight and nine spent time in lessons and after school designing and creating products to sell at the annual Christmas market at the school. The year eights designed and made various Christmas decorations such as felt and acrylic tree decorations, tags and metal hanging decorations. These were all made in an afterschool club in the design and technology department, managed and helped out by Charlotte Hall, a Duke of Edinburgh silver student, as part of her service section of the award.

The year 9s created wooden candle holders and Christmas tree decorations.

Kirstie Jones, head of design & technology said, “We also held a house competition to design a Christmas card to be sold in packs; Ethan Nelson in Yr 8 and in Polaris house won the competition.

“All of these products were made to help raise money for the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group for the RUH in Bath and sold rather quickly.

“All the items made were created by the students and sold by them as well; and this was a great success! We managed to raise over £360 for the unit, which we presented to the charity.”
